Community Service

CleaningWe believe it is important for students to develop connections so they can begin to appreciate that they can be a part of work for the common good in the world.

We begin that work in our school community by taking responsibility for doing school clean-up jobs at the end of each day. All teachers also offer and we require that all students take at least one community service elective each year.

These electives range from putting on school dances, to beach and roadside litter pick-up and from sewing quilts for premature newborns, to working as advocates for charitable causes.

Every Monday, we send a group of students to work at Helpline, our local social service agency. Each year we choose a way to support a national or international service project.

We are currently working to establish a sister-school relationship with a school in Dunga, Kenya. In addition, we are studying how we can move towards becoming a community that is creating a more sustainable environment.
